From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the group understands precisely where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- However, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the group access places they usually can’t.
- Additionally, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them few options but to journey toward the northern region in quest for Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Questers and Schemers groups.
Audiences can expect learning which players will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
